Top 5 Lookouts in Trinidad
Disclaimer... Guys this is just my views on the top 5 lookouts... some others may contend..leave me a comment and maybe the post can be changed to your liking.. 'jus saying' lol.
#1 - Fort George (St James)
Built in 1804, by Sir Thomas Hislop for protection against the Napoleonic fleet, the fort looks over the city of St James and has a great view of the Gulf of Paria. The fort, which was part of a complex of fortifications, is the best destination for one of the most spectacular views of Port of Spain and the sea. In addition to the beautiful vista at this well preserved structure one can see the original cannons, dungeons, artifacts of the day and a signal station which was established in 1802 and designed by Prince Kofi Nti, son of King Kofi Calclai of Ashanti, West Africa (Ministry of Community Development, Culture and The Arts, 2018).

#2 - Mount St. Benedict (St. Augustine)
With one of the most panoramic views in Trinidad , Mount Saint Benedict was established in 1912 on 240 acres of land approximately 700 feet above sea level, purchased by Dom Mayeul De Caigny, a Brazilian Benedictine Monk from Trinidadian Andrew Gomez. By June 27, 1912, the land was officially Benedictine property.

#3 - Maracas Bay Lookout
This may just be the most popular lookout in Trinidad. The Maracas Lookout provides photo-framed views of the Caribbean Sea gracing the coastline of the Northern Range inclusive of the frequently visited Maracas Bay.It’s a perfect stop if you have the munchies for some local sweets, preservatives and chow of just about any fruit you can think of.The view of this popular beach Maracas Bay, fulfills the fantasy of the ideal Caribbean beach. From this vantage point, the nature lover will be thrilled to take pictures of the lush green mountainside as well. The ideal resting place after a long trip to Maracas Bay, visitors can enjoy local delicacies and souvenirs provided by local vendors.

Overlooking the North Coastline |
For those of you who were addicted to ABC’s hit TV Show LOST (2004 – 2010), this place is Trinidad’s very own ‘mysterious island’.Chacachacare is an island about 7 miles off the coast of northern Trinidad. For years now, it has been inhabited only by the lighthouse keeper, iguanas and other wildlife. It does include Trinidadians who arrive on boats for weekend camping and cookouts. Cruisers also anchor there for weeks at a time. In the past, it was a leper colony, but since leprosy was brought under control, the last patients left in the early 1980s. It was just abandoned, no one bothered to clear out the furniture, medical equipment and records or other personal items. The buildings are slowly being reclaimed by Mother Nature and time.

However, it seems like with every visit to Chacachacare you’re left with more questions and secrets, than answers. Not to say this place is ‘haunted’ or unexplainable, but rather there is so much history on this small island, it’s hardly likely you’ll get it all on one visit!

Indeed! Probably the best lookout of all! It features sights of the capital like no other. Not even Fort George can show you the city like this lookout!. So then why did I put this the last post. WELL... because you just can visit here when you want... there is a 95% chance yur gonna get ROBBED! On the flip side... this spot gives a fascinating view of the Caribbean Sea, Port-of-Spain and the Queen’s Park Savannah. This view of the capital city is peaceful yet exciting as the breeze transmits sounds of cars, children, people and animals, representing diverse aspects of the population. Local foods, delicacies and souvenirs are all available for visitors at this scenic location, atop the capital city of Port-of-Spain.
